Description

Eccleston Aviation Coolant-Based Carb Heater (Rotax 912 Series, Non-Certified)

Description

A CNC-machined coolant heater module for Rotax 912 and 912 ULS engines, designed to prevent carburettor icing without reducing engine performance. This system uses engine coolant to apply consistent heat to the carburettor body, avoiding the power loss associated with traditional heated air intake methods.

Kit Includes

  • 2 × precision CNC-machined heater bodies (billet aluminium, anodised)

  • Hose fittings: one 25 mm and one 17 mm

  • 1.5 m length of ¼″ fuel-grade rubber hose

  • 6 × 11–13 mm  hose clamps

  • 2 × 16–27 mm hose clamps

  • Cable ties for clean installation layout

Note: Loctite 243 (blue) is required for installation and is not included.

Key Features

  • Always-on coolant-fed heating to suppress carb icing risk

  • Maintains full engine power and throttle response

  • Durable, vibration-resistant aluminium construction

  • Lightweight system adds minimal weight to engine setup

Benefits

  • Reduces or eliminates carb icing in cold, humid, or variable conditions

  • No airflow restriction or power reduction, unlike hot-air systems

  • Easily installed on most Rotax 912 engine bays

  • Complies with LAA modification SM10427 for non-certified aircraft use

Applications

  • For Rotax 912 and 912 ULS engines in kit-built or permit aircraft

  • Recommended for cold climate flying or where moisture levels are high

  • Approved for retrofit under LAA guidelines with corresponding inspection

Installation Notes

  • Requires approx. 17 mm clearance between heater units and adjacent components

  • Install per instructions with proper routing and hose clamp torque

  • Perform ground run and leak inspection before flight

  • Document the modification in aircraft maintenance logs and seek approval if flying under a permit system
